Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal known as the West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of the name mistakenly believe that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually it is the West Island includes everything westward from Lachine. Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time was not long in the city. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. The first goal she had was to become an expert dancer. However, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned to acting. Her high school teacher school was the one who pushed her into the right direction. Her teacher suggested she audition for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has been in over 60 productions, both on big screens and smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was the one of Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 which was viewed only at times.
